EuCham Mentoring Program – Shaping Future Leaders

EuCham achieved a promising partnership with Dongguk University (South Korea) and welcomed five selected students in Budapest in January 2015 for a 4-week Mentoring Program.
The ambition of this program was to provide them with experience in various fields including project management and public relations. Participants have rapidly been involved in the ongoing projects and were encouraged to put their new competences into practice, aiming to start and develop a GREENWILL chapter in South Korea and organize the very first GREENWILL Event in Seoul.

Responsibilities included web management and social media marketing with the creation of a Korean website and the launch of a promotional campaign through different channels. Moreover, they brought a valuable contribution to the organization of Green Social, a monthly event addressing environmental matters.

All of them received specific mentoring from EuCham president Mr Michele Orzan, with advices and feedbacks on how to become future leaders, besides pragmatic trainings focused on Business Networking and Corporate communication, in order to acquire capabilities which are not always formally taught.

“I learned that a failure at work does not coincide with a failure in life, but often represents an opportunity to rethink our strategy”, said one of them.

Besides their main mission, they had the opportunity to connect with inspiring people. Indeed, they had been hosted in the headquarter of Prezi, one of the world’s most successful startups, to discuss IT opportunities in today’s world, and Impact Hub, world’s larger community of social entrepreneurs, to share experiences and insights.

They also had the chance to share their perspective with successful entrepreneurs invited in EuCham offices for a private Q&A session and meaningful one-to-one meetings outlining entrepreneurship and leadership skills.
However, the key moment of their stay occurred when the interns met the Korean Embassy Secretary to discuss what they learned from EuCham and the future possibilities in South Korea regarding GREENWILL initiative.

One week later they were conducting the first Green Social Seoul event in front of a crowd of people.
EuCham hopes that five new future leaders have just found their way to make a change.
