A Hungarian part of 2011 edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Week was organised by the EuCham member FIVOSZ (Young Entrepreneurs Association). It took place between 14th and 20th of November 2011. The GEW was founded in 2008 by the Enterprise UK and the Kauffman Foundation (the world’s largest entrepreneurship foundation based in the US). Since its inception, Global Entrepreneurship Week has spread to 115 countries, with nearly 24,000 organisations carrying activities. The event was being carried in 104 countries this year, growing from the number of 77 countries taking part in 2008. It consists of around 40,000 events with about 10 million participants.
The aims of The Global Entrepreneurship Week are:
- to build a bridge between the entrepreneurs of today and tomorrow
- to support the new business generation in Hungary
- to stabilise and inspire the SME sector
- to unite for a more ethical and value‐based business culture
The patrons of the event are successful businessmen and dominant business entities. Several prestigious organisations and business related alliances are represented on the Global Entrepreneurship Week. Individuals promoting the event include such persons as Bojár Gábor, chairman of Graphisoft, HMA Greg Dorey, Ambassador of the United Kingdom and Imre Hild, entrepreneur and investor. This year the patronage include the US Embassy and Tibor Navracsics, vice prime minister of Hungary.
The event included the Day of Sustainable Enterprises, an International Day (focusing on Asia), Day of Business Communication, Women Entrepreneurs’ Day and Suppliers’ Day.
