EuCham representatives and EuCham Georgian-CEE Business Council were invited for a conference organised by Georgian government: ‘Adjara (Georgia) – Investment Opportunities in Tourism‘. It took place in Budapest at HITA (Hungarian Investment and Trade Agency). The purpose was to promote investment in one particular area of Georgia – Adjara. Georgian authorities gave a brief, yet detailed presentation on Adjara, which is an autonomous Republic of Georgia located in the south-west of the country, on the coast of the Black Sea.
The presenters encouraged to visit the Republic for investment purposes, as the government has taken steps to make their country even more attractive, besides for tourism, as the place has attractive beaches, mountains area and historic sights. Georgia encourages investors by very favourable tax system and some tax exemptions for certain particular investments. An interesting thing is that the law of Adjara does not allow to higher taxes without a public referendum where citizens agree on such a modification. There is a shortage on the hotels in Adjara, therefore investors are welcomed to step in when it comes to this area. The infrastructure is also improving, with some new flight deals being negotiated with Wizzair, to create connections with the capital of Adjara – Batumi – and Poland or Ukraine. For winter sports tourism, there is also a big ski resort being created in Adjara.
